“Understanding is the basis of care. What you would take care of you must first understand, whether it be a petunia or a nation.”
Dallas Willard
This 17-minute video will radically empower you to understand homosexual people and help you care for them more effectively.
The commonalities in the childhood histories of those who end up with same-sex attractions (SSA) are undeniable. In this video, Dr. Julie Hamilton (LMFT) presents a basic outline of the development of same-sex attractions which fits 75–85% of males with SSA. She also reviews some of the roots and causes of lesbianism.
The Way Forward is Redemption,
not “STOP IT!” or “DO IT!”
Imagine telling an anorexic, alcoholic, abusive, or the suicidal person to just “Stop it!!”…
That wouldn’t be helpful. Like trying to hold a beach ball underwater, we can be sure that unmet God-given needs will find their way out one way or another. Without clarity and proper tools, they are stuck with their own attempts at behavior modification and mortification of the flesh without transformation and the new life of Christ.
Strongholds like lies, vows, unmet needs, the wounds of physical/emotional/sexual abuse, unforgiveness, and defensive detachment will keep them from moving forward into the character of Christ. One common vow for the male who faces homosexual attractions is, “I will never be like my father.” This keeps the male detached from not just his father, but from what the father represents, which is masculinity. The same happens to many females who reject their same-sex parent and find themselves far from who God intended them to be. There are real reasons involved – needs to be met and wounds to be healed.
Homosexual attractions and gender confusion indicate deeper root issues where one should focus their effiorts. But if the person facing same-sex attractions is not given illumination of those issues and the proven tools that help address those issues with the Holy Spirit, they will see no result season after season. It doesn’t matter whether the person wants to be married or celebate, being whole in oneself and able to love God and others appropriately won’t happen if they don’t deal with the junk at root in their hearts.
God does not simply wave a magic wand when someone gives their life to Him so that their needs and sin struggles go away. People with deep, life-controlling sin issues need adequately illustrated, particular, detailed, biblical, researched ways to move forward.
A Call to Pastors | We are not acceptable losses.
So many parents, so many struggling with SSA ask the question, “Why didn’t anyone tell me this?” after they’ve faced the consequences of decades of silence.
A 2021 Barna study found that 27% of Christians aged 18 to 37 years old identify as LGBTQ. It’s likely that 1 out of 4 teenagers and young adults in your care is facing the heaven-and-hell issue of homosexuality.
The silence is deafening. Please let your heart be softened for the lost suffering with same-sex attractions (SSA). And let your courage be anchored in your trust in the Lord, not the praises of man. You can rescue people from the highway to hell and decades buried in lies, addiction, and the wounds that come before and after entering homosexuality.
God’s compassion is better than the world’s, but if you’re not speaking about root problems, you cannot speak effective solutions. If you don’t speak the specific insights that set these particular captives free, then who will? Pastors, become God’s compassion by talking about root issues and providing precise care and instructions for those facing gender and sexual confusion. They’ve become food for the wild beasts (Ez. 34:5). The time is NOW to speak on Sunday morning, to the whole congregation, on a regular enough basis to rescue 1 out of 4 young people and care for their parents and friends!
